In order to make the activities of
IICO integrated, general and not confined to a
specific type of charitable work, IICO has
established several committees to provide aids in
various fields. Each of these committees is
specialized in a specific field or serving a
geographic area or certain group of people.
The first of these was the
Committee of Asia which works in
Asia particularly in the republics of the former
Soviet Union. The
Committee of Palestine supports the
Palestinians in their struggle for their rights. "Help
your brother" Committee provides
educational and Islamic help inside and outside
Kuwait. It established
Al
R-u'ya bilingual school as a model for
modern Islamic schools.
The
Youth Committee and
Women Committee provide
supportive environments for young men and women
encouraging the spirit of charity and
co-operation.
The Committee of
Asia
This is one of the IICO's
largest committees, serving 825 million Muslims in
Asia. The Committee was founded on Feb. 9, 1989.
The objective of the committee is helping the
needy in the Asian continent, since they represent
the largest Muslim community in the world (three
quarters of the world Muslims).
The
Committee objectives
-
Helping charitable institutions
on the Asian continent in order to guarantee
care and welfare for the poor, orphans and the
needy.
-
Implementing humanitarian aid,
educational, and social services projects.
-
Conducting research and detailed
studies of the geographic, social, and cultural
conditions of Muslims in Asia.
-
Cooperating and coordinating with
other organizations of the same or similar
humanitarian interests as the IICO.
-
Increasing the public
awareness of the problems Muslim peoples in
Asia are facing.
Following the collapse of
communism, the committee's responsibilities
increased because of the growing need of the
republics in central Asia for identity awareness.
This led the committee to double its efforts to
support those states with material and moral
assistance.
The committee had been among the
first organizations to draw attention to the
adverse situations of deprived communities in
those countries and to break the isolation in
which they had been placed by the communist
regime.
In recent years, the Committee of
Asia offered material and moral support to more
than 40 ethnic groups speaking about 45 languages
in the former Soviet republics.
The
Committee's Projects in the central Asian
Republics
The committee is conducting many
charitable projects in Asia . The priority is
given to social, educational, and health problems.
Here is a list of some of these projects:
-
Building new mosques and
renovating the old ones.

attention to spiritual education.
