The International Islamic Charity Organization (IICO) launched a new project for mobile medical clinics under the slogan “Kuwait by your side” in Al Wadea District in Abyan Governorate, Yemen, to treat 4,500 patients. The project includes providing free medicines and medical supplies to poor patients, pregnant and lactating women, and children, as part of the IICO’s vision to provide support to the poor and neediest families in brotherly Yemen.

In light of the ongoing efforts to support the health sector in Yemen, the IICO launched this project in cooperation with the "Nidaa" Foundation for Development, which comes in response to the urgent health needs in the "Azan and Labu Amrkad" regions. As well as in an effort to provide free medical services to vulnerable groups in remote areas that suffer from a severe shortage of health services.

Furthermore, this project is one of the important humanitarian initiatives that demonstrate the continuous support provided by the State of Kuwait to the health sector in the Yemeni areas affected by the war and ongoing crises. As the IICO seeks to provide free medical support in areas that are difficult to reach or that lack basic health facilities, with the aim of reaching a healthy and fit Yemeni person who can engage in the development of his community.

Through mobile clinics, Yemenis in Al Wadea District were able to obtain comprehensive medical services including medical examinations, treatment, and health awareness, which contributes to improving their general health and reducing their suffering due to diseases prevalent in these areas.

Moreover, the project includes providing a number of mobile clinics equipped with the latest medical devices and specialized medical staff to provide the necessary treatments and medical procedures. The clinics also include child vaccination services, chronic disease investigation, and medication provision, in addition to health awareness campaigns for families on the prevention from infectious diseases and improvement of healthy lifestyles.

The project benefits a wide segment of Yemenis in Al Wadea District, especially the most vulnerable groups such as children, the elderly people and pregnant women. Given the challenges facing the health sector in Yemen, the project provides an opportunity for citizens to receive free health care at a time when they lack the financial means and access to specialized hospitals.

In addition, the project has a significant impact on the local community by alleviating the health burdens on the residents of Al Wadea District, who have long suffered from a lack of health services in light of the difficult security and economic conditions. This is in addition to its role in raising health awareness in the local community through awareness campaigns that accompany the provision of medical services.

This initiative is an important step towards enhancing health stability in crisis-affected Yemeni areas and will have positive long-term effects by improving the quality of life and reducing disease and mortality rates in the beneficiary areas. The importance of the project comes at a time when health conditions in Abyan Governorate are deteriorating due to declining support from organizations and a scarcity of resources for beneficiaries.

On this occasion, which brought happiness to the beneficiaries, a number of the families who benefited from this project and their families made press statements, in which they thanked Kuwait - the government and the people - for the sympathy it showed in supporting the Yemeni people. They also thanked the IICO in particular for the support it provides to the poor and needy Yemenis in order to alleviate their pains and ease their suffering.

The project targets the governorates of Abyan, Lahj, and Hodeidah, to provide health services to thousands of poor patients from the targeted areas and neighboring areas.

It is noteworthy that the launch of the mobile medical clinics project in Al-Wadea Directorate embodies the humanitarian spirit of the State of Kuwait, and reflects the commitment of the IICO to support the health sector in Yemen and meet the needs of the neediest groups.
