As part of its efforts to help resolve the water crisis in the Yemeni city of Taiz, the Sa'ilat Al-Qamṭ Water Project was launched with funding from the International Islamic Charity Organization (IICO). The Project will provide clean drinking water to approximately 130,000 people from local communities affected by the ongoing conflicts in the region, in a way to improve their living conditions.
The Project involved drilling a 324-meter-deep artesian well in the Sa'ilat Al Qamt area of the Sala District, one of the most affected and water-deprived areas in the past seven years. This vital groundwater source is an important step toward improving water supplies for the local community.
Furthermore, the well is powered by solar energy, reflecting the Project's commitment to environmental sustainability and innovation in addressing challenges. These modern technologies help reduce reliance on traditional energy sources, which can be unstable under the current situation.
The Project was implemented in cooperation with the Humanitarian Development Program and the Local Water and Sanitation Corporation in Taiz Governorate. This partnership highlights the importance of coordination between international and local organizations in addressing humanitarian crises and reflects the commitment of all parties to achieving common objectives.
Moreover, the Sa'ilat Al-Qamṭ Water Project is an important step toward improving the quality of life for residents of Taiz City. The Project will provide approximately 130,000 residents of the Sala District with potable water. It will also improve health situation by reducing the spread of diseases associated with contaminated water, and enhance food security by improving farmers' access to water and increasing their agricultural production.
In addition, the Project helps raise environmental awareness in the community by encouraging sustainable water use and protecting the area's natural resources. It also provides residents with easy and hassle-free access to water and reduces the costs associated with purchasing water, improving the economic situation of displaced families.
The Sa'ilat Al-Qamṭ Water Project reflects the commitment of the IICO and its implementing partners to achieving a long-term positive impact on the lives of local residents in Taiz by providing clean drinking water using modern and sustainable technologies. It is hoped this will contribute to improving public health, enhancing water security, and achieving sustainable development for communities affected by conflict.
Through such Projects, the IICO consistently seeks to provide support to communities affected by humanitarian crises. The Sa'ilat Al Qamṭ Water Project is part of its ongoing efforts to provide sustainable solutions to pressing problems such as water scarcity.
This Project represents a model for coordinating international and local efforts to meet the needs of vulnerable communities in Yemen.
Furthermore, the Project utilized advanced drilling techniques to ensure efficient access to groundwater, saving time and money, strengthening water and sanitation infrastructure, and ensuring that community needs were effectively met.
Taiz, like many areas in Yemen, faces significant challenges in providing clean drinking water due to ongoing conflict, climate change, and a lack of infrastructure. This tragic reality is perhaps what prompted the IICO to adopt the Sa'ilat Al-Qamṭ Water Project as an innovative and sustainable solution to address this crisis.
