Under the patronage of the IICO, Tarahom Volunteer Team finished the works of a new relief convoy to Yemen under slogan of "Kuwait Beside You", within which the cornerstone for the second phase of "Kuwait AlKhair" Village project was laid to accommodate displaced families in Mocha Directorate at Yemeni Taiz Governorate, in presence of group of high-ranking Yemeni Officials and the Team members.
After his return from the relief journey, Tarahom Volunteer Team Leader, Nasser Al-Bassam said in a press release that the second phase of Kuwait AlKhair Village for housing displaced people comprised 120 housing units designed for accommodating 720 displaced Yemenis, indicating that it is supposed to finish in 12 months maximum.
Al-Bassam denoted that every housing unit is consisted of two bedrooms, a toilet, a kitchen, and a yard. The IICO intends to provide the village, which is built on 28,800 square meters, with solar energy system, a sewage network, and other facilities such as school, clinic, etc.
Al-Bassam also said that the project is executed with the works of "Kuwait Beside You" Campaign started eight years ago to mitigate the Yemeni brothers suffering through building safe houses ensuring they are enjoying a dignified life, protecting them from consequences of living outdoors, and bearing the harsh weather conditions in summer and winter. The Campaign completed the first phase of Kuwait AlKhair Village for accommodating Displaced Yemenis in "Marib" on surface area 227,000 square meters, and included 250 houses to accommodate 250 displaced families.
Furthermore, Al-Bassam pointed that the relief convoy included distribution of 500 food parcels to the displaced families in Taiz and Hodeida to provide their basic needs stating that one food parcel includes food items for 6 persons roughly for one whole month.
Al-Bassam drew attention to the inauguration of "Improvement of Livelihood" project within which small pickup trucks "tricycles" were distributed to some unemployed persons of the displaced families to provide them with source of income and provide dignified life for their families.
Al-Bassam expressed thanks and appreciation to the IICO management for its continuous patronage for volunteer work, encouraging and supporting volunteer teams, and provide logistic support for it, coordinating with partners to help the volunteer teams efforts to succeed.
Al-Bassem praised the endeavors of the Ministry of Social Affairs, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Kuwait Society for Relief, and Kuwaiti diplomatic missions abroad for their actions in supporting the charitable work march, and volunteers' efforts to distribute the philanthropists' donations to displaced and vulnerable people in different countries around the world.
As well, Al-Bassem showed thanks and gratitude to the local authorities in (Taiz) and (Hodeida) Governorates, and concerned governmental authorities in the Yemeni West Coast for their cooperation and contribution in launching the second phase of "Kuwait AlKhair" project under the supervision of Al-Twasul for Human Development Organization in Yemen.
Additionally, the Kuwaiti Delegation visited "Kuwait School" and distributed 1250 copies of Holy Quran to the school students, mosques, and displaced families.
The Team ended the convoy works by organizing an open day for offering psychological support to 200 women and children by specialists in the Team, in addition to distribution of gifts to the attending children.
For his part, Director-General of Mocha Directorate, Basem Al-Zuraiqi welcomed Tarahom Volunteer Team visit and expressed his joy, thanks, and appreciation to the IICO endeavors and all its volunteer teams working actively in Yemen and seeking to implement its humanitarian, developmental, and relief projects including building houses for displaced people and distribution of food parcels to them.
Al-Zuraiqi pointed that Kuwaiti footprints all through Yemen are highly appreciated and praised by all Yemenis, and its developmental effects are the best witness on that for decades.
It is noteworthy that 36 volunteer teams in different charity and humanitarian fields inside and outside Kuwait are working under the umbrella of the IICO, and some teams work actively in providing assistance to refugees, people displaced and affected by Humanitarian disasters in plenty of countries.
