Al-Mutawa, the Deputy Director-General for Resource Development and Projects of the charitable organization, emphasized that the IICO is working to support the humanitarian situation in Gaza through its approved local partners in the Kuwaiti Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
He stated in a press release that charitable associations, with the IICO at the forefront, are working on two tracks considering the blockade imposed on Gaza by land, sea, and air. One of these tracks involves diverting funds allocated for large construction projects that were pre-approved for implementation in the sector to relief projects, in recognition of the urgent humanitarian needs, especially given the current events that have made their implementation impossible.
He added: The second track is that Kuwaiti charitable associations only collaborate with local associations with high capabilities and substantial financial resources. These associations can directly implement multiple projects in times of crisis. Funds are provided for these projects after the situation stabilizes.
Al-Mutawa continued, stating that the field implementation work, whether related to the joint Kuwaiti people's campaign or individual campaigns by charitable organizations and associations, has been keeping pace with the unfolding events. Associations have begun receiving executive reports on the distribution of food items, blankets, mattresses, meals, and more.
He added that the IICO has several development projects in Gaza, and the funds for these projects were transferred before the current events. However, he indicated that these funds will be redirected to urgent relief projects, with a commitment to fulfill them when the circumstances allow.
Al-Mutawa reassured the generous donors that charitable organizations and associations have extensive experience in charitable and humanitarian work spanning decades, and they can operate in the face of all crises and challenges.
He described the response of benefactors to the crisis and their humanitarian assistance as a very commendable interaction. He stressed that charitable organizations in Kuwait operate with full transparency under the supervision of state authorities and in accordance with regulations, governance systems, and internal audit offices. Their funds are subject to scrutiny.
He expressed his thanks and appreciation to the donors who have a strong passion for the nation's issues and crises, and who are keen to ensure that charitable funds reach the beneficiaries. He also mentioned that charitable organizations are waiting for the activation of the movement through the Rafah border crossing to deliver the deserved aid to the people of Gaza.
